Services

Intake Sessions and Assessments
These sessions are the first session a tutor has with a new student. In these sessions, the student and the tutor discuss individual goals, challenges, strengths, and skills to be improved. During this session, if not done already, the tutor will obtain a signed contract for services from the student (or their parent/legal guardian if student is a minor). These sessions may include reading level assessments, baseline testing (to compare to for progress), goal-setting, and get-to-know me time.

Individual Tutoring Sessions
Individual tutoring sessions are a 1:1 student-to-tutor ratio. These sessions focus on the goals that were established during the intake session and may include time to finish homework with tutor assistance, discussion of organization and time management, discussion of progress, assessments of further challenges, and setting goals for the next session.

Group Tutoring Sessions
Group tutoring sessions are similar to individual sessions; however, in a group session, all students are working on the same subject (math, English, science, study skills, organization, etc.) and are the same age/grade level. In group sessions, the format becomes much more of a discussion to help students get to know the skills and concepts they are learning on a more personal level. Students will leave a group session with goals and assignments for each individual and the group as a whole.

E-Session (individual & group)
The E-Sessions are very similar to in-person sessions, however, these sessions are done over Skype or  FaceTime (for Mac). In E-Sessions, it is imperative that the student is focused on the task at hand and has a solid internet connection so that productivity can remain high. E-Sessions target the same goals and initiatives as in-person sessions.

Consult
A consult is an excellent way for a parent or student to determine if they are a good candidate for private tutoring services. In a consult, the tutor will meet with the parent and/or student either in-person or online (via Skype or FaceTime) to discuss the student's needs and challenges, how the tutor can be of assistance, and what kind of program they are looking at doing.

Curriculum and Materials
These will vary by student as is deemed necessary by the tutor and parent/student partnership. For many students, additional worksheets or "personal projects" are very helpful in the student achieving their desired success. These materials may include workbooks, website memberships for practice and skill development, practice tests, and study materials. Any curricula or materials that the tutor feels would be helpful will be approved by the parent/student ahead of time and paid for upon the next session in the sum of the gross cost to the tutor for purchase (you will not be charged service fees for materials and curriculum).

APA/MLA Style Proofreading
Writing in proper APA and MLA style can be very challenging and daunting for some students, especially when they are first learning the style. For this reason, Essential Tutoring offers online submission and proofreading of papers, including written or verbal comments. This service is also available in-person for those within 40 miles of Winona Lake, IN. Using the APA 6th Edition Publication Manual or the MLA Style Guide, our tutor will work with the student to not only perfect their research paper, but also to work toward fluency in the style required for their discipline.

Prices vary based upon services required and distance of travel for tutor to session. Please contact Essential Tutoring for a personal quote.
